The Whitehall BID is a Business Improvement District (BID) covering one of the most globally significant political locations.
Flanked by the Palace of Westminster and Trafalgar Square, this special part of London has been home to our most powerful institutions since the 11th Century. From the Cenotaph to Horse Guards Parade, from the Cabinet Office to Downing Street, Whitehall has become a national symbol of history and politics, epitomising the UK’s status on the world stage.
The benefits of a business improvement district are clear to see with over 65 BIDs in operation across central London, with over 300 in the United Kingdom. The Victoria Westminster Business Improvement District was the BID proposer of the Whitehall BID and is a fully established BID in its first term.
The Victoria Westminster BID was established in October 2018 to help support and influence businesses to move forward with the ever-changing needs and aspirations for the area. Building on the success of the Victoria Business Improvement District, who have been established since 2010, The Victoria Westminster BID has been working together with local partners to help create a strong, distinguishable and vibrant destination in which to live, work and visit.
In February 2021, The Whitehall BID was formed after an overwhelming 95% of levy paying businesses voted ‘yes’ at the ballot with a 69% turnout, firmly endorsing the creation of a new BID in Whitehall to provide the local business community with a strong voice to drive change, innovation and stimulate additional investment into the area. The establishment of London’s 67th Business Improvement District sets a strong mandate to deliver ambitious improvements in the area.
The area is a key tourist destination which offers a variety of historic and cultural assets. The BID aims to ensure Whitehall remains a world-renowned business and visitor destination, through catalysing the revitalisation of the area, enhancing its unrivalled status in London, and developing the experience of working, living, doing business and visiting the area.
